¡Que tengas una feliz navidad!

The Christmas tree went up yesterday in the public square. Right beside the pink gothic Parroquia de San Miguel Arcangel here in San Miguel de Allende.

Bit by bit, the city begins to embrace the holiday.

All of the streets leading into the Jardin Principal are strung with tin stars and twinkling lights. The gazebo and trees in the little park are a Christmas wonderland.

The good people at Good News SMA tell us that 70 employees from Penzi Weddings have been working to set up the iconic Christmas Tree in the heart of the City.

“This 15-meters-tall tree features:
+ 380 stars made of brass by local artisans.
+ 320 spheres.
+ 48,000 lights.
+ Traditional toys around the base.

“Teaming up, the city has been decorating the streets with more than 5,000 artisanal stars.”

Soon a life-size Nativity will envelop the gazebo and the Posada ceremonies will unfold. The Posada re-enacts the travel and trials of Mary and Joseph as they traveled to Bethlehem. Here, neighbors and families travel to each other’s homes where they are met with love, song, and hospitality.

This Friday at 7 p.m. the community tree will be lit and I imagine, as in years past, there will be singing, music, and of course, fireworks. Always fireworks.

It is just the beginning of the most wonderful time of the year.

These pictures were taken this morning as the sun was rising over the hills to the east.

Have yourself a joyous holiday season, however you might choose to celebrate it!
