After enjoying the festivities in Logroño last night, I somehow had it in my head that a super early start was just the ticket.
Getting up at 6 am and leaving as quietly and quickly as possible is accepted protocol, especially when you are sharing a room with 20 to 30 bunkies.
You’d be amazed at the packing and banging and zipping that goes on while others are still trying to sleep.
I didn’t want to be one of those people.
But I was. I’ll do better.
What was surprising was how few people had the same idea. The streets of Logroño were shockingly empty.
Leaving Logroño:
Oops. Did I get the wrong day?
I walked alone the entire day, with the exception of Navarrete, where I spotted one person I recognized.
So different from yesterday when it seemed every other person was a Camino acquaintance.
Entering Navarrete:
That started to change when I walked into my auberge San Saturnino in Ventosa for the night .
My only two roommates — Phil a master ferryman from England and Chris, a planner and watercolorist from Australia— were familiar.
On to Ventosa:
Later, at a restaurant, I ran into Chris teaching watercolor to two of my longest standing Camino friends Jose from Spain and Debbie from Ontario.
So we all stayed and had dinner together.
You’re never alone for long on the Camino.
Tonight’s photos start with some of the Logroño revelries from last night, some from the walk to Ventosa, and the amazing church in Navarrete.
Tomorrow is a 34-kilometer day. I did it right this time. Bag is packed and I’m good to go at 6 am.

Hi! I have so enjoyed reading your Camino updates! We haven’t met and I think we crossed via Facebook because we also live in SMA (though only Jan-March most years!). My husband and I did a 10 day Camino in May and loved it all though ours was a bit on the pampered side (hotels, vans, tour guide). Enjoy it all and buen Camino!

Gracias Robert, I am truly enjoying your camino through France. I no longer have the physicality to do what you are accomplishing. What do you think about when you find yourself alone for a day?
