For more than a week, San Miguelians have been parading and dancing nightly in celebration of the Feast of Saint Michael. When it’s your namesake, you go all out. Right?

And on the last day, you put it all together in the “Grand Desfile de Danzas Locales y Foraneas” — the Grand Parade of Local and Foreign Dances.

And was it ever — indigenous and cultural dance groups from all over San Miguel and Mexico descended on the city Sunday morning. At 11 a.m. sharp, the police siren blew and platoons of mojigangas scampered and twirled their way down the Ancha, heading for Cenro.

The “grand desfile” was on.

For the next two hours, almost to the minute, colorful indigenous dancers made their way in an endless stream of music, color, movement and pure joy.
