Sunset San Miguel

We were a few minutes late for our 6:30 p.m. reservation at Antonia Rooftop Bistro but just in time to catch the end of this glorious sunset.

The restaurant is about four heart-pounding flights above the Hotel Palomar at San Francisco #57 and I suspect sunset dinners are in demand. It does have an elevator, by the way.

What other restaurant gives you a sweeping view of at least nine churches? (I could only fit six in the frame.)

I was clicking off frames before we’d taken our seats. Sunrises, sunsets — these things are so fleeting in San Miguel. Precious moments that won’t wait for you to be seated.

I posted this to Facebook on Friday but I think it deserves a bigger platform. Part of the reason why everything sparkles has to do with the season. In front of the Parroquia de San Miguel Arcangel is the community Christmas tree. It’s about 40 feet tall and well-lit. The streets too are filled with brightly illuminated tin stars and the Jardin Principal is saturated in fairy lights.

The city never looks more beautiful than at this time of year. It makes sense to climb four flights of stairs for your dinner when this is the feast that awaits you.

And the meal was terrific, too — shrimp tacos, arrachera tacos, Caesar salad, fettuccine with shrimp, octopus, and pork belly bits with a butternut squash puree on the side, and a classic holiday logroll for dessert.

I’m more a “viewdie” than a “foodie” when it comes to dining out. I like my atmosphere. A California thing, I guess.

Anyhow, I hope this picture brings you good cheer in the new year. Lord knows, we’re going to need it.

Love you all.

I lived in Col. Azteca overlooking the canyon.

i had those incredible views for 18 years! It was paradise.

Two accidents caused me to need to a one story place with no steps whatsoever Six years ago.

Np sunsets for me in La Canada unfortunately BUT I can visualize old ones when I wish.
