San Miguel de Allende, The Week in SMA

SMA events, June 2-9: Parades of locos, a parade of planets

Quincenario en honor a San Antonio de Padua, the two-weeklong celebration of Saint Anthony began with a locos parade on Saturday, June 1, that ended up at the Parroquia San Antonio de Padua in Colonia San Antonio, as they will each night.

For two weeks, pilgrimages by groups of Locos will leave each evening from a different place in San Miguel and parade toward the Parish of San Antonio de Padua.

Here is a copy of the schedule with times, departure points, parade routes, and more for each evening. These parades are fairly short but colorful and lively.

They culminate in the massive Dia de Locos parade on Sunday morning, June 16. If the big parade is just too big – and crowded – you might try catching one of these nightly parades. They are just as fun to watch, if you ask me. You might be able to simply step out your door one of these nights and celebrate with the Locos!

SUNDAY, June 2

Election day!

Everything you need to know about Mexico elections today, from Mexico News Daily.

MONDAY, June 3

Pre-dawn — Another kind of parade

Six planets will appear in alignment on the same side of the sun low in the eastern sky at sunrise on Monday. What does this mean for your horoscope or cosmic orientation? Got no idea. Might be comforting just to know that sometimes there is order in this chaotic universe. Besides, scientists say you won’t really be able to see all of the lineup with the human eye. You’ll see some but you need a good telescope to see them all.

Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune and Uranus will take part in the parade, which expected to last for several days. Meanwhile, the same planets will align in a different order in August and in January 2025, with seven planets due to align in February next year.
