A layover day in Burgos leaves me exhausted

You’d think a day off would mean rest and relaxation. But no.

I spent nearly the entire morning walking about in the massive cathedral. It is not so much a place of worship as a … well … I don’t know what.

You don’t come to pray so much as to be awed by centuries of craftsmanship and opulence.

I still don’t know what to think of it all.

This afternoon I walked over to the Decathlon sporting goods store for some replacements — a broken walking stick, a lost sleeping bag liner.

It was two miles uphill to the store.

Next to it was a McDonalds. Man, I so wanted to order a Big Mac. Instead, I walked back into two at sat at a street cafe, facing the cathedral.

I ordered a burger.

Then I did laundry.

That’s about it. I’m going to leave you some pictures of the cathedral, and scenes from around Burgos. It is another city that obviously likes its people.

Big parks, big public squares filled with outdoor dining, playgrounds, walkable streets, and cultural outlets everywhere.

Good night. Fairly short day tomorrow— about 12 miles, as the wide open Meseta begins. And the rain. Looks like rain.
