Sorry if things look a little abbreviated this week. There are two major football/soccer tournaments going on and even if all my favorites — across the world — have been knocked out of contention, the playing has been superb. Copa America and Euro Cup — check them out. The style of playing in each tournament could not be more different from the other.
I shall tell my lazy staff of low-paid ex-New York Times writers (who made the mistake of saying Biden is a nice guy) to add more events tomorrow. So check back.
If you have an upcoming event, send details to robertj.hawkins2012@gmail.com. This is a zero income, zero expenditure, zero cost to you exercise. So, if you operate on a shoestring,no worries.
Enjoy your week. Tip your waiters and musicians generously. Buy local. Complain internationally.

10 a.m. – San Miguel’s coolest yard sale returns
Salón Los Pinos, Salida Real a Querétaro #185, returned recently after a years-long haitus and it is free. In fact, why not check out the myriad offerings then walk the few blocks over to the Sunday Market for a truly full day of random shopping?
Los Pinos was a favorite stop before Covid because you had no idea from week to week what might show on those tables. Especially intriguing were the old books and collectibles scattered among the tools, clothing, jewelry, cosmetics, car parts, toys, posters, kitchenware, knick-knacks and paddywacks.
Tables are still available as the salon grows back to full strength. Text for more info at (415)111-8466 or (415)566-4922.
5 p.m. — The classical kids are alright

Chicago cellist Alexander Hersh and pianist Evren Ozel make their San Miguel de Allende debut Sunday at St.Paul’s Church on Calle Cardo. in the first of several concerts in the highly anticipated Pro Musica summer series.
Hersh represents an exciting new generation of classical musicians who are passionate, talented, and spirited and yet, retain a youthful exuberance that kicks the dust off some well-worn pieces. You really need to go to YouTube and search for his videos (especially Absinthe I and Absinthe II) to see what I am talking about. The music is engaging and sensitive to the touch but the video narrative is a whimsical and sometimes surreal tale of a shimmering green bottle of the potent liquor that just won’t go away, no matter how many times it is tossed.
This evening, Hersh and Ozel (a fellow New England Conservatory alum) will perform Claude Debussy’s “Sonata for Cello and Piano,” Ernő Dohnányi’s “Ruralia Hungarica for Cello and Piano, Op. 32c,” Frédéric Chopin’s “Sonata for Cello and Piano in G Minor, Op. 65,” and Sergei Rachmaninoff’s “Sonata for Cello and Piano in G Minor, Op. 19.”
Tickets for the concerts at St. Paul’s are $450 and $650 pesos and are on sale through the website and at the concert 45 minutes before performance time. Details for all Pro Musica’s concerts are on its website, www.promusicasma.org, or email to promusicasma@gmail.com.

5 p.m. Local authors on stage
Elsmarie Norby (“It Is To Wonder”) and Kim Malcolm (“Burden of Truth”) will discuss their recently published books on stage at the Teatro Santa Ana inside the Biblioteca. Norby has written a memoir in the form of brief vignettes with photos, describing her early years in San Miguel, and her move to San Miguel Viejo where she founded Ojala Ninos, a flourishing creativity center for children. She writes of mistakes made and lessons learned along the way in a most engaging and compelling style. Malcolm helped write the memoir of Robby Carrier Bethel who searched for 20 years to uncover the truth behind the appropriation of her family’s Louisiana farm by oil companies and the white power structure. The book talk is a fundraiser for the Carrier Family’s legal expenses. Donation is $150pesos.
The event will be a fundraiser for the Carrier Family’s legal expenses.
5 p.m. — SMA Travelers’ Club first meet-up
If people aren’t moving to San Miguel de Allende, they are leaving it to travel somewhere else in the world. And the first thing we all want to do when we return is talk about it. Am I right?
Two singularly named people, Nellie and Champi, want to forge a community of passionate travelers here in San Miguel to hold regular meetings to discuss (I’m guessing here) where you’ve been, where you are going, where you want to go, and what you have learned along the way.
You need only travel as far as Selina´s Rooftop, Cuna de Allende 11, Centro. And unlike all other travel, this trip is free.

4 p.m. — Show your colors
Colectivo Colores SMA is sponsoring “Marcha del Orgullo” a gay pride walk in Parque Benito Juarez.
